Concept
A Musical Duo with Paul Mimlitsch and Richard Ball
Exploring the Boundaries of Music
Paul
and Richard met at a jam session a couple years ago and found an
immediate musical commeraderie based on exploration and improvisation.
Paul explains it as "painting with sound... throwing sound onto a
canvas and seeing what comes out."
The
original explorations of Concept involved a soundscape base created by
looping layers of guitar sounds over which the two improvised. This is
documented in their 2007 CD "Conversations." (See Recordings page for
sound samples from this project.)
Recently
Paul and Richard have been exploring a much more 'acoustic' approach to
their improvisations. Paul has been playing a 12-string baritone guitar
and classical guitars, and recent recordings have included percussion
played by Richard.
Paul and Richard can be found playing widely in the Evergreen, Denver and Boulder areas.
